Dark skies short break by public transport

  • From Wolverhampton your best bet would be due West. Mid-Wales ideally. I recall somebody offering stargazing weekends at a B&B somewhere there several years ago.

Public transport? Good luck! That's been on the skids ever since Maggie decided it would be a one person - one car economy...

What about the Scilly Isles for a short holiday?
They don't have the light poloution and a short walk should give you a dark sky.

Or somewhere like Oban in Scotland. Fly to Glasgow and train to Oban. Lots of local tours or ferry to one of the tiny islands
The Isles of Scilly (its proper name) is very expensive to get to.  It’s on my bucket list.

The most amazing view I’ve ever had of the sky was on a cross channel ferry.  No light anywhere near and it’s one of the only times I’ve seen the Milky Way in all its glory.

Thx all for the great info (and laughs). Got a lot to think about.
Well I had better start my bucket list this year, firstly think I need a bucket.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
