Got myself in a right flap! Gatwick South drop off & Trace Debt

Hi all,

I hope I am not going to annoy anyone by starting a thread on this as I can see it has been covered a million times before! I have read the sticky over and over and in all honesty I have confused myself with what I actually need to do!

The story - Back in June after the car that we were travelling in to the airport broke down near my house and much faffing about we arrived at Gatwick late but with just enough time to park up and check in, In the fluster we took a wrong turn and accidently went through the drop off lane without stopping and then back round to the short stay entry.

Nothing more thought of it until a couple of days ago when I received a demand for payment from Trace debt recovery for £170.

Knowing just enough about this sort of thing to get myself into trouble I came here for advice and quickly established that the reason I never received a PCN from NCP is because my V5C was registered to my old address, !!!!!!.

I have updated my V5C to my current address and emailed NCP with the following -

Dear Sir or Madam

Data Rectification Notice

As the Registered Keeper of vehicle registration XXXX XXX, I am writing to instruct that you update my personal information on file with your company.
My Correct Address for service:
XXXXX
XXXXX
XXXXX
XXXXX
I request that you update your records with my correct address for service, as detailed above, and ERASE all other address data that you hold for me, and inform any and all of your agents and sub-contractors to do the same.
Please note, that due to an administrative mistake, my address as the Registered Keeper was previously incorrect I have since requested a change of address with the DVLA and the Registered Keeper details have been updated accordingly.
Yours faithfully,
XXXXXXXXXXX

I am thinking that maybe I should have waited until the V5C came through and then sent a scan of it along with the email?

I have also sent a disgruntled feedback form on Gatwicks website ( not sure if that's the right way to contact them about it ) Outlining my disappointment in them for associating with such predatory companies.

I have had no contact with Trace thus far.

So what I am asking is, have I got it right so far and in order to navigate me through the corrupt process that I am now embarking on is it best to update this thread as and when things happen so that I know I am not stitching myself up and I am getting it all in the right order.

Many thanks in advance for all of your advice and help.

If they require proof in any reply, scan it and send it then. But if you have added say 2 recent redacted pictures of utility bills then that should be ok too

Do not pay the dropoff invoice if it comes

If they don't know who was driving, keep it that way, no keeper liability on airport land, as seen in other threads

Wait for any replies or future letters, then come back to this thread for further guidance

This is a known scam entrapment site, of which both the airport owners and NCP are fully aware, but neither seem to care.

The important thing to know is that since the site is covered by airport bylaws apply, the vehicle keeper cannot be held liable, which is why the driver's identity should never be blabbed about.

In any further correspondence, refer NCP to the strict requirements of the PoFA 2012, stating that since the keeper cannot be held liable, they should cancel now to save themselves money.

Yes you did everything right so far (except not updating your V5C when you moved).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks guys for your input so far! I've just received the following response from filling out the feedback form on Gatwicks site -

    Dear XXXXXX
I'm sorry to read about these difficulties.  NCP manage the drop off charge process for us and they can be contacted by using this link (I cannot post links yet!) or telephone 0345 050 7080 making sure to choose option 2 then option 1.
    Kind regards

I have read they will pass the buck on the first contact, what would be the best response to this to see if they can instigate a cancellation from their end?

    Many thanks

Yes. Tell them you didn't ask for NCP's contact details thanks very much.  That isn't helping.

  • UPDATE:

Hi all, just to update I had no response from NCP at all, and none from Gatwick either, I had another trace letter mimicking the 1st letter which I ignored, and yesterday I received this letter

Do I continue to ignore or do I need to take some action? I do now have the V5 with the correct address on it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ignore trace, its a debt collector letter

Besides the V5c being updated correctly, make sure that you have advised the DPO at the parking company of the correct address for the service of papers, an email with a copy of the current V5c is sufficient
