Ad supported Netflix on Sony Bravia tv

Does anyone know whether the issue with ad supported Netflix not working on older Sony Bravia tvs can be fixed using a Fire stick or a Roku box?

Ad supported or not makes no difference, if the TV can run the Netflix app then it can run regardless of the subscription level. 

Is it one of the early generation Bravia TVs that ran on a custom OS or is it Google TV OS? If the former they might not support the new version of Netflix, if the latter then you should only need to update the app in the Play store on the TV. 

If the TV is no longer supported then a Fire or Roku would work, though personally I would go with the Google TV adapter as I think it offers the best user experience, even if it is slightly more expensive.

If your using an external streamer than it makes absolutely no difference what TV its plugged into. Could even plug it into a 40 year old CRT TV with a HDMI to Composite convertor

Thank you for the advice, that is so helpful. Will have a look at the google tv adapter as well. The problem is our tv and there is no Netflix update to fix this.
