Learner insurance when accompanying driver has an EU licence

Hello,

I'm trying to find a learner insurance for my son so that he can practice driving with me in the family car.
Now, I have an EU driving licence and that seems to be a major issue. Naively I thought that it would be fine as the gov.uk website states that, legally the accompanying driver may hold an UK, EU, or EEA licence, but so far all insurances I've tried require an UK licence...

I have also tried to add him as additional driver on my policy, but my current insurer says they only insure people over 21 years old, so not possible!

Would anyone know how to solve this? (otherwise I will have to volunteer his mother for the job ;) )

One option is to cancel your policy and buy a new policy that will accept them as a learner driver but you'll need to factor in the cancellation fees on deciding if to do that or mum.

There aren't many specialist brokers in mass market consumer insurance as margins are too thin to cater for it. Normally it would be trying to speak to someone like Adrian Flux but can see they've partnered with an off shore insurer who also insist on a UK licence but may be worth a call. Else a google and hitting the phones or save your brown trousers and let mum do it

    Hey, thanks @DullGreyGuy.
Yes, Adrian Flux requires a UK licence...

After reading many policies, I have found Collingwood through Confused.com, which accepts UK and EU licences so I guess I answered my own question. This might be helpful to someone else.
