Audi extended warranty

We’ve owned an Audi for several years and to protect us against untimely bills if anything goes wrong with it we took out Audi’s extended warranty policy. We recently sold the car, but we have been informed by Audi we need to continue paying the monthly premium as we have made a claim in the policy year! It was around £100 a month and we have until May before the policy finishes…so it’s going to cost us £700 to cover a car we no longer own! This policy was buried in the small print, but doesn’t seem very fair. Anyone experienced the same? What can we do?
