Consumer rights query - faulty used car

Hi all
Hoping for some reassurance here before taking next steps...
Long story short, I recently bought a used Kia Sportage for £9,000. A week after driving it home, the 'Check Emissions System' warning light came on, and it has continued to come on more and more regularly since.
The seller has been very communicative throughout, but now the issue has been identified - a blocked DPF- he has gone a little cagey. The DPF had actually been cleaned by a mobile company prior to sale, and as that hasn't worked, he now wants me to fit a brand-new DPF under the extended warranty I purchased.
As far as I'm concerned, the cost of repairing the car is on him as the fault developed within 30 days of purchase and was pre-existing. He hasn't disputed that, per se, but is arguing that he would have sold me the car with a 3-month warranty and sorted it through that - only I paid extra to extend it, so it's only fair we now go through *my* warranty.
I'm not delighted, to be frank. I've asked him to get a quote for a brand-new DPF inc. labour (as I suspect it will be more than my warranty claim limit for such things anyway) and also asked him to get back in touch with the mobile DPF cleaning company and complain.
In the meantime, do I hold firm on insisting he pays, and likely turn this into an unpleasant, drawn-out affair, or should I be willing to go via the warranty (maybe the seller pays anything the warranty won't cover?)
I've had a terrible week, what with a bereavement and an injury and now this, so I am feeling pretty stressed!
Thanks any and all for your advice x

So long as warranty is happy to pay out. Often DPF may not be covered.
TBH, DPF cleaning is only a short term fix, it does not solve the issue. Do you do a lot of short trips?Life in the slow lane1 -

But even if I did, I'd expect a DPF cleaning to last longer than 7 days, which was the time between it being cleaned and the light coming on.
Warranty does cover emissions system, happily - but only up to £500 per claim.0
