Home insurance renewal, claim or not?

Background: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6493045/water-leak-underneath-possibly/p1

Summary: The leak is not from my side, 2 plumbers and water company confirm.

Anyway, at the time I thought it was and submitted a claim, the result:

02/01/2024

Claim Number:

We’ve looked into your insurance claim

Dear

We’ve now finished our review of your recent claim on your Home insurance policy.

I’m sorry to let you know this isn’t covered under your policy. This is because this insurance policy inception date was 24th November 2023 and the damage was first noticed in June 2023 therefore had happened before the policy started.

Also under the section of Trace and Access, we would only look to cover this if there water damage to your property. If you’d like more information about what is and isn’t covered by your policy, please take a look at your policy documents. If you no longer have these, you can ask us for another copy.

I appreciate this isn’t what you’d hoped for, so if you have any questions about your policy, please call us on 0345 604 6887. We’re here Monday- Friday between 8am-6pm and Saturday 9am-1pm

I did a SAR request from MIB on the CUE database as wasn't sure at reneal time what it would come under, the results sent on 29-08-24, only has my car claim from 2016.

My renewal has now come through and says:

You've had no paid building insurance claim (s) and no paid contents insurance (claims) on this policy.  if you've had this cover with us for more than 5 years, only paid claims from the last 5 years have been included.

I assume I don't have any claims, but not really sure as I don't want it cancelled later on and stuffed for life.

You dont have any paid claims, but you do have a declined claim which it appears your insurers haven't yet bothered to report to CUE - not all insurers do but not sure if there is a time limit for them if they are going to?

Ultimately read the question you are asked and answer honestly. If you aren't sure then BEFORE buying checking with the company in question if you've answered correctly given the declined claim.

Thank you,I will run a dummy quote first in Incognito mode using a random name/address to see what the options are and put down 0 years for a building claim and the usual over 9 years or more contents no claims or is that also 0  :/

Thinking putting 0 for both to cover myself and start afresh.

EDIT: I did with a claim and without:

    With cheapest £456
    Without £423

One to note and keep details for the next 5 years.
