:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

I've given up since New Year, and i'm going crazy at the moment :mad:0 -
B _O_S Well done you!!! The first week is hardest but I promise you it is worth it
These are the health benefits you have already achieved and will have done by the end of today
At 20 minutes after quitting:- blood pressure decreases
- pulse rate drops
- body temperature of hands and feet increases.
- carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal
- oxygen level in blood increases to normal
- chance of a heart attack decreases
- nerve endings begin regrowth
- ability to smell and taste improves
If it is any consolation, I have not smoked for 898 days 17 hours and 29 minutes. It does get easier, I promise0 -
Just a brief note to you would be Ex Smokers...
One of the routes offered might me ZYBAN which is a BRAND NAME for the ACTIVE COMPOUND BUPROPRION just a little word of advice here.
FACTS - ALL VERIFIABLE
1) There were many thousands of claims of side effects (many SEVERE) reported via the YELLOW CARD system for this drug to the MHRA
2) This drug was on the MHRA watch list (black triangle list) for many years as it was being monitored for adverse reactions and classed as a suspect
3) I was one of the 80+ people who experiences severe life changing reactions immediately on taking this drug (days to few weeks) the story i could tell you would curl your hair, i went on to set up the Zyban action group in the UK and spoke to MANY others who had had similar or identical mind destroying experiences, so I spoke to BBC, Granada, Panaroama etc about getting an EXPOS'E of this drug and the alleged misrepresentations made by Glaxo to get it licensed in the UK, and the severe damage it was alleged it caused to its victims, I came within a hairs breadth of this programme being made, instead Panorama made a program about Seroxat (Paxil) (another GSK = Glaxo Smith Klein miracle drug) which it was claimed induced suicide in teenagers GSK failed to mention this as a risk and allegedly did a cover up - it was found by a US court and Judge Spitzer that there were repeated and deliberate misrepresentation's by GSK surmountable to Fraud.
Remember ZYBAN is another drug from the same stable of GSK.
So in summary if you take ZYBAN you in many cases will be OK but there is a significant risk in my opinion of death and severe health problems which DO NOT go away.
So the point of my post is
1) BE WARNED
***VERY VERY WARNED***
2) LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER OPTIONS
3) REMEMBER THAT THESE REACTIONS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE UNTIL THE DAY WHEN LIKE ME YOU YOURSELF BECOME THAT " SOMEONE ELSE"
4) good luck with your attempts to give up fellow MSE , may your lungs be clean, your health be wonderful and your wallet be full of pounds that Gordon our beloved Brown would otherwise have lifted courtesy of your governmental permitted addiction at the rate of about £4.50 a packet of 20...
BEST OF LUCK... and never give up giving up ... you can do it !

The NHS, ASH & QUIT don't want you to stop smoking, they work for the pharmaceutical industry- the makers of nicotine patches & gum.
The only way to stop is the natural method given by Allen Carr in his book-read it! It works! I smoked for 22 yrs, now I don't, I know, it worked for me!0 -
Hi
I also tried Zyban about 6 years ago I had disturbing side effects, I stopped taking them after about a week. Idid not have the urge to smoke at all.0 -
Get the book..
I gave up 3 years ago, after being recommended the book by someone who'd given up using it - who was recommended by someone who'd given up using it etc etc...
As this is moneysavingexpert - suppose I should mention that in those 3 years - probably saved around £5400 :T0 -
Hi everyone,
I'm 25 and have been a smoker since the age of 18. I recently decided it was time for me to give up and I haven't smoked now for six months and I'm fine. The only way people can stop smoking is if they really want to. If you really want to, have the will power and stop. You have a choice at the end of the day, you can lift a cigarette to your lips or not, simple as that. It really does pain me to see the likes of Paul Mckenna and other so called experts in packing in the fags making millions off us guys pretending to give us the inspiration to quit when all along we have it within ourselves to stop. I firmly believe in the three day rule, just try to stop smoking for three days and see how you feel. It not only works with smoking but dieting also. After three days you'll be smelling and tasting things like you did when you were a non-smoker and if that isn't incentive enough, as the weeks mount up your chance of getting heart disease will also decrease hugely. Medical professionals say that it takes between 3-5 years for the body of a heavy smoker to totally recover from the damage caused by cigarette smoke. Just think in five years time your body will most certainly be as healthy as it was before you started smoking in the first place. The alternative however is to pursue a life of smoking 20-40 fags a day until it's too late to do anything about the damage caused. Have the frame of mind that if you do get stressed out the cigarettes are right there to buy almost anywhere, if you want one you can have one, but try to overcome this. Calm yourself down and when the cravings pass (which they will) you will feel a great sense of achievement in that. Yes you were stressed out, yes you could have nailed at least two cigs on the bob, but you didn't, you held strong and didn't give in. These everyday little victories soon add up and it almost becomes like playing a game with yourself. It becomes a competition to see how long you can last without one, and guaranteed soon enough these cravings will cease to be, once the nicotine receptors in the brain are used to their new nicotine free environment. Now who's the winner? You will be, with no help from anyone you've quit for good. Just by being the strong and also loved person who you are, you'll be able to overcome this addiction. Take care and good luck.0 -
Allen Carr's book might cost u a fews pounds but its a clean and very healther way of quittin without all those patches and potions
