Laptop around £1,000

I'm trying to help my son find a laptop that would work for him. He does play games and seems to be doing ok with the one he's got but it's getting a bit slow. Our internet is pretty rubbish so I don't think he'll need the top tier but is talking about moving to Dubai which may have better speeds.
This is what he is looking for :-
I want one I can do trading on, and can do video on and maybe even learn programming. On top of that he doesn't want a particularly small screen.
Considering my last laptop is over 10 years old running Windows 10 I'm quite happy with it so I thought I would come here for some advice and what I should look out for.
I have had a look at previous threads and everybody seems to want something different so I thought I would start a new one.
If you think I have missed one that would solve this please point me in the direction. Thanks

    What games are being played?

"tradng" I presume is stock market trading or similar?  You don't need anything powerful for that if its all done through a web portal.  Programming you don't need anything super powerful either.  VIdeo editing can be done on a laptop though its probably better (and quicker) on a desktop if you access have access to one.

You probably don't need to spend £1k.

Physical location shouldn't make any different to the internet speed.  Dubai is apparently better in every regard in terms of raw speed.

Trading on? As in stocks and shares? Anything can do that

Do Video? Is that stream movies to watch? in which case things the size of a memory stick can do that. If its produce 4k feature films thats a very different thing

What programming? To actually programme you need a very basic machine, where demand comes is if you're wanting to be able to test the code on the same machine... your 10 year old laptop would be fine if you want to develop a website or a contact list app... if you're wanting to build an actuarial modelling software for billion pound book of business its different.

Making assumptions on the above it sounds like the gaming aspect is the biggest demand. Look at some of the latest releases of the types of game liked and their "recommended" systems, not minimum. That should be a reasonable baseline, maybe consider bumping it a little if you're hoping a long life

HP Omen Gaming 17, Acer Nitro 5 17-Inch, MSI Katana 17 Inch FHD Gaming Laptop are all worth a look.

To be considered a gaming laptop, a separate NVIDIA GPU is needed. The graphics built into Intel CPU are minimal.

    Thanks guys..
Yeah it looks like gaming is the biggest driver in this purchase for my son.
Always nice to have a base to start with. I appreciate the response.

HP, lenveno, acer or apple are good brands. I usually get refurbished laptops and find it’s a lot cheaper that way with a 1 year warranty usually.
