Cooker Wiring (again)

I’ve found several posts concerning wiring in a new electric oven but I would be obliged if anybody can help with this particular problem.

My old oven was rated at 2.5kw and it had been wired via a standard 13 amp plug and double socket behind the oven to a cooker circuit that was protected by a 32 amp MCB. The other socket is used for the gas hob spark ignition using a 5 amp plug.

Unfortunately, the new oven is rated at 3.3 kw and the installation instructions state that it must not be wired using a 13 amp plug. (It fouls the back of the oven by about 10mm anyway)
To avoid having to find a new way of connecting the gas hob electrics, would it be within regs to replace the double socket with a dual mounting box that has a cooker connection unit and a linked fused connection unit fitted with a 5 amp fuse?

I can’t think of any other safe and easy means of doing it.

Thanks

all depends on the cable size to the cooker switch box unit?
is it proper sized cable or the normal ring main circuit?

also consider disconnecting the gas hob electric ignition and use a sparky type lighter thingy instead?
    Get some gorm.

I doubt the wiring feeding the 13A socket would be suitable to feed the cooker. I reckon it would be undersized and risky. Is there not also a law now that prevents you carrying out your own modifications to house electrics unless you're qualified.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will help, but to be honest, I reckon it would be much safer getting a new feed direct from your meter box, it's the safest method but not exactly the easiest.

  • Sorry no you cant the new oven needs its own supply via a Double Pole Switch from the consumer unit. Also that way you can still have a socket for your hob ignition
Wiring the oven will be classed as a new installation so needs to be done by an electrician

yes if the double socket is as you describe and fed via a dedicated cooker circuit it would be fine to do what you propose .
  • Thanks for the advice everybody. It is a dedicated cooker circuit but my main concern is that by removing the 13 amp fused plug then there is nothing protecting the cooker connecting cable (1.5mm rated at 16A) apart from the 32 amp MCB

So change the MCB to one suited to the fitted appliance e.g. 16A.

  • Cooker the load 3300/230 = 14.37 amps you need a cable able to take this load and a fuse and that of whatever hob is (there are bits like distance insulation and alike) Ifs its feed from a radial circuit you can have a twenty amp douple pole switch for cooker and 5 amp fused outlet for hob this is all dependant on cable size A cooker outlet should be on its own radial circuit straight from consumer unit
