OVO Energy debt PAYG meter

Seems unlikely. Agreed, it's unwise to use an inherited key or card. However, in the OP's case that was more than10 years ago. Any inherited debt should have been reclaimed long ago.tim_p said:
Surely “They left us the key” explains what’s going on here.Chezzabelle2017 said:They left us the key for meter. Maybe it’s not their debt I was just thinking of different ways how it got there. I just don’t understand how we have managed to get it as we top up regularly and hardly use the emergency credit.0 -
Make a formal complaint if you haven't already done so, then go to the Ombudsman after the required 8 weeks. In the meantime photograph all the different screens on the meter. It is totally unacceptable for them to simply state that you owe them money and then actually take it without explaining why.Chezzabelle2017 said:Does anyone know what I can do now?I still haven’t received my break down of how we got the debt and they are ignoring us now. Telling us they will contact us etc…
this has been going on for almost a month now and we are getting nowhere and they have started taking the money for the debt off the meter even though we requested for it to stopped until they have provided us with information on how and where the debt has come from.I am not sleeping at night due to the stress and panicking that by using the electricity in the house we are somehow getting into further debt.2 -
I have been told the debt has been wrongly added to my account, I have gone through an 8 step process to remove it from my account.Thank you to everyone for their input ☺️3

@Chezzabelle2017 the exact same has happened to me, everything you said! even down to waiting for the proof it has been months and I’m paying back debt that I don’t own either, they have ignored me also. Could I ask what the next steps you took were after being ignored by them etc please.0

We just kept contacting them, then eventually they let us lodge a complaint and through this they contacted us to sort it out. I am sorry I am not much more help. You can lodge a complaint with the ombudsman but there are rules, I can’t remember them but it’s worth having a Google.0
