As a low user of electricity your EV is going to be using a large proportion of your future use so going on to their Intelligent Go tariff is likely to see you quids in.
I drive about 11000 mile a year and that accounts 60% of my electricity use. This is charged at 7p kW (aprox 17.5p less than Octopus fixed) the other 40% costs around 2.5p more than than Octopus fixed so it’s a no brainer for me.1 -
Thank you for your advice, I will drive about 2000 MLS per year. Am currently on July fix. Would I have to pay more for general use? Just trying to understand. I know that you have to only charge up to 80% .I can see you are benefiting.
Thanks again0 -
With that mileage you might be better of on Agile Octopus. Just charge up when the prices are very low or ideally negative and get paid to drive! I do about 4000 miles a year and I have never paid more than 9p/kWh for car charging but mostly I get paid to fill up, which drags down my overall cost per kWh.
The 80% "rule" is very much one of thumb. It is actually good for the battery to be slow (AC) charged, periodically, as it allows the BMS (battery management system) to balance the voltage of the individual cells in the battery pack. If your battery is LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry it is OK to leave it at 100% SOC (state of charge) but if it is NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) then it is wise to "take the froth" off the top battery after a 100% charge within a few days, as leaving at 100% for prolonged periods can be damaging.0 -
Thank you very much for your full fact info, really helped.
