A direct debit would come out whether or not your mother's account was in credit or not. They don't just stop collecting because an account has credit.

This sounds like a genuine bill - Octopus appear to have told you then so not sure why you still think it's a scam.

You need to be speaking to Octopus and either telling them that they should be going via the executor of the estate (may be you but not a personal liability) and they should be able to outline how the bill occurred.

You seem to have access to all records dating back to then. Do you have access to the Octopus billing for the account? What do previous statements say

    Hi Just thinking!
Why would a Direct Debit payment be taken for the first month with this account number then stop? Then 4 months later be credited with £111 in your bank account. Then 6 months later a new account number is set up?

This 0330 123 9024 phone number I checked on who called me. It was searched over. 3000 times. Has been flagged for suspicious activities, currently being primarily associated with the legal services scam.
Just because someone has flagged a number as being a scam doesn't actually mean it is. It could well be that people don't think they owe any money and therefore flag it as suspicious when in reality it's not.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Sorry but you are overthinking this.

If I was you I would raise a complaint with Octopus telling them you want them to call the solicitors off and explain to you why this has been sent to solicitors when there has been no prior communication with you.

  • Thank you for reading my post and replying. I contacted Octopus and got it sorted. They apologised for the way the account and situation was handled. And will also put a stop to the debt letters.

    Many thanks once again.
