Used car purchase from ebay

osp

Purchased a car on trust via ebay. Paid by Bank Transfer on delivery. Car inspected by local garage thereafter and significant issues to prevent use! No recourse via ebay or payee, garages quoted on advert non-existent. In Small Claims Court awaiting judgement, garage quoted in ebay did not reply. Awaiting judgement £2445 at stake, but see no way that i will receive any money?

Also don't understand the why to this story.0 -
Do you have any idea of the geographic address of the seller as without that I can't see this ending well, did you collect it or meet somewhere? . Even with the geographic address it might still be difficult as you would need to show the seller is the person advertising on ebay, and it's not a hijacked account. You say you are awaiting judgement, against whom and have you satisfied the court that the person you are claiming against is the seller?
Unfortunately you have no leverage through ebay as you used an unsafe payment method which is not recommended and isn't therefore covered by their money back guarantee. AS for the bank, did you get any warning at all before making the bank transfer - anything warning you that you needed to be careful about sending money to a stranger or were you just allowed to send the money without issue?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You must know who the seller was, otherwise whom have you filed the court papers against?
What age, make, model, mileage, condition of car?
What did you pay for the car?
What are the "significant issues"?
What does your claim value (£2.5k) represent?
If that's what you paid for the car, and you still have the car, then you are claiming more than your maximum loss which is purchase price less scrap value.0 -
Presumably you didn’t check on the garages mentioned in the advert (presumably ones that were quoted as having contributed to a service history?) before you committed to the purchase.Sadly - and I know hindsight is painful - it seems that you were missing quite a lot of due diligence with this purchase, and while I’d love to think you might get somewhere with getting your money back, I suspect you are going to need to write this one off to experience.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

The 'why'? maybe for an alternative, helpful view, and clutching at straws! If Small Claims Court judges in my favour, I then have to find a way of getting my money from the name/bank account that I do have - Courts again??? Correct wrt 'due diligence, relied too much on trust! The garages quoted on ebay, although address quoted, and email, did not exist, post returned! Car was £2345, extra was for delivery to me. Scrap value £180. Bank Transfer was not queried. Local garage on inspection found a cracked suspension arm (could go anytime, yet was driven 150 miles to me) and significant rusting of chassis (too expensive/time consuming for repair). I think I have covered most of the questions0

Just to be clear, did you buy this car from a dealer or a private individual?0

Advert on ebay- see garage details!0 -
That is a good question. Down on ebay as a dealer (a garage) who advertises on sites other than ebay AND paid to a business account (not the same name as garage!). Yes, confusing, but wasn't at the time!0

Address is flats. but phone number is Bradford, thought some of the location used looked familiar.
0 Feedback & phone number = BargePole territory.
So do you have a address & name to go to court with.
I know where this will go. They shut up shop & you get no money, even with bank details.Life in the slow lane0
