GIS maps - view property boundaries online?

Hi all,

I spoke to someone who said that they can go online and view anyone's boundaries and it's free.  I've been searching and can't find such a site.  Does anyone have any knowledge of this please?

I would be very surprised to say the least, if any map be it online or otherwise, would show entirely accurate property boundaries.  The boundaries are shown on the deeds of a property but those maps are rarely of a scale where accurate measurements could made.

    UK gov website says

If you live in England or Wales, there’s usually no record of:
    • the exact boundary between two properties
    • who owns the hedge, wall, tree or fence between 2 properties

This guide is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg).

You can get an idea of where the boundaries for your property are by looking at its title plan. Most title plans don’t show exact boundaries - you usually don’t need to have the exact boundaries recorded anywhere.

There's a thin strip of land which I own along the side of my house. About 2 feet in width.

The person looking at the GIS website could see online that I own it.

Land Registry will allow online index map searches, but you need an account and its limited to property professionals and businesses.

If there is no other property to the other side of that strip it would be comparatively easy to identify who owns it.  It's precise line of boundaries between gardens for example which will not be precisely shown.

Yes to the other side of that strip is a pathway which Redrow still own (used as a public footpath).

It's a bit of a legal quagmire.  The shapes of the plots are sometimes wrong - to be expected, the measuring is done by humans, and we make mistakes.  LR specifically note that even if their map says you the owner, that's not actually certain.  https://www.wrighthassall.co.uk/knowledge-base/will-the-land-registry-title-plan-identify-the-correct-position-of-my-boundary

To view your title + plan you'll need to buy it from land registry as kimwp says.  £11 now.

It's mainly for business users, but there's nothing to stop you signing up with https://www.landcycle.com and you can view the plot shapes projected onto a Google map.  The resolution won't be great, but it's only 5p per view and you get some free credit to start anyway.

Our local authority planning portal has detailed mapping, I assume the plot boundaries are a Land Registry data layer. Is that the kind of site they might be referring to?

Not even the LR title plan is very actuate half the time. They use any map available at the time.
I had one a while ago and the LR had used a thick red pen. Scaled up the boundary was 2 foot wide!

You can view the Land Registry Inspire Polygon Map here: https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=6a5896a2ac91485e90e83a84efd19215 - this shows the same boundaries as are shown on the official LR maps, but has inspire ID references rather than official title references. However you can then use these inspire ID references to search the gov.uk title search site to then obtain official copies of the title(s) you are after.
