Suspended attendance Allowance

Options
Hi i am caring for my great aunty. Her attendance allowance been suspended without any warning or letter. I rang them and been told they will contact me back. But my aunty is very worried she is 87 years old
I am totally confused why this happened as she not been hospitalized more then 28 or never been in care home. Has anyone had same situation and how long it took to sort out. Thanks

Something must have triggered this even if it was a computer error.  Ring them again.  And again.  Until you get it sorted.

fyi - as I understand it she would still get her AA if she was in a care home, just not the hospital after 28 days.  Which makes me think that maybe she was in hospital but perhaps no one mentioned she had come home?

One of my work clients has had this happen too and has had a catastrophic effect on other benefits. I am still trying to get to the bottom of why this has happened and in the meantime they have sent another AA form to complete. It's frustrating.

It’s a bit more complicated than that.

You can receive Attendance Allowance (AA) in a care home if you pay for all your care home costs yourself.  However, if your local authority pays for your care, you usually won't be able to receive AA.
  • Yes that's correct i am her carer as well and i receive direct payments through local authority. However she also pays towards her care like contribution. Am stressing out if this will affect my direct payments because am still car8ng for her and her circumstances not changed. How long they will take to look into this.

Had they have to apply for AA again?

She was in hospital for heart stent for 5 days but discharged after that. But there is letter on thier system saying she is in care home. There is another lady same name. They always mix her details woth her. I believe this is data breach. Now they told me they receuved this letter from her appointee saying she is in carw. No NI number mentioned. I told them thats someone else how can they mix up names and stop my auntie claim they saying they will investigate and get back to me but dont know hiw long
