Joint accounts - why they don't seem to be offered as standard

Options
Currently am I a Chase account holder.  Noticed on a few of these new banking companies moving to the app only getting something with Joint accounts seems difficult. Would anyone know why for example Joint accounts aren't just a standard fixture for anyone creating current/spending accounts?

It's likely that being joint than both individuals should have access via their app.  Which means that their app needs to accept different logons, passwords etc.

Guessing as I don't use bank apps but that's the only problem as after you gain access everything should be the same for both.

No different to any other bank - joint accounts are accessed by either party on their own login, whether on app or on website.  Perfectly normal and common for joint accounts.  So I can't see that's a reason for app-based banks not to offer them.

But yes, app-based do seem to make it more tricky - some don't offer joint accounts at all I think.

Chase promised joint accounts 3 years ago but it didn't materialise.

Starling joint account was easy to set up

I can't say ive ever found it a problem, with Monzo we opened our own accounts then it took a minute or two to open a joint one.

But why should you have to open your own accounts just to have a joint one. Seems a bizarre practice by these newer banks .

Don't really see an issue with it

I dont know. They are very quick to open and you don't hsve to use the personal account so having an extra card you can stick in a drawer is a problem.
