Applying for DRO but I’m very anxious

Options
Hi everyone. I’m new here. I guess I’m just looking for reassurance. I qualify for a DRO. All my paperwork is pending until the 4th when my bank accounts switch. Once they’ve switched, the DRO paperwork will be sent off.
I know realistically this is the best thing due to my circumstances. But, I just have this feeling that I’m not doing the right thing. I’ve had family tell me it’s the right thing to do, however it isn’t helping my doubts and anxiety. Is anyone able to help reassure me? I know that I have no hopes in actually paying off the debts, the people helping me with the DRO have proven that to me with all the income/expense sheets etc.
I just feel like, I got myself into this mess, I should be able to get myself out, but I can’t. And I feel like I’ve failed. I don’t know what or who. I just feel like I’ve failed cos I can’t help myself clean this mess.

You are getting yourself out of this mess.

What you need to concentrate on is making sure your future budget is sustainable long-term. Whether that is reviewing your spending habits, acknowledging the impact of personal relationships, learning to cut your coat according to your cloth, or finding a way to get more cloth. And that's not to ignore that for many right now there isn't enough cloth.

You can do nothing about the past. The future is yours to grasp.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Thank you RAS.
The people dealing with my DRO have stated that there was nothing on my expense sheet that they could even suggest to cut down, and even mentioned in some aspects we are underspending in some areas. Which is due to us just knowing the right people to get some essentials cheaper/free. It’s like the expected us to be spending more when we don’t have more.
  • The way this can work is to increase the amounts you say you spend and save the excess. The reason for this is to cover you when something goes wrong and you have the back up of an emergency fund without using credit.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

It is rare for someone to regret having a DRO, they may regret needing it but not actually taking the right decision to move forward without this impossible debt holding you back.

The only regret you will have is not doing it sooner, once up and running life continues as per normal.

With a DRO your income/expenditure needs to remain constant in order that no changes occur, which could potentially cause your arrangement to fail, it can be a long 12 months, but once completed, you will feel the benefit.
