I bought a second hand car, a 2018 Clio
I bought it last month (sept 24th 2024) from an independent car dealer close to where I live, used them before for servicing etc.
Paid by bank transfer, I traded in my car and my mums (total trade in was £5500 so made the rest up myself.
Headlights were accidentally left on one night and battery went flat, due to the immobiliser kicking in the wheels locked so it had to stay outside for it to be worked on.
You put the key card (spare says the same) in and it says keycard not recognised. RAC called out to fix it and couldnt. The seller has spoken to Renault who have said "that cant happen", the seller has said it might be a case we get it to Renault at Swindon to get it sorted.
All depends on time, Id like the car back but if its going to take time Id like my money back.

You're past the 30 day right to reject period, so you need to give the selling dealer a chance to repair it.1

Thanks yes Im ok with that, will give the garage a call and ask about a courtesy car, if not I may well see about a cheap run about till its fixed, currently Im using a hire car but I cant keep using it as its costing money.Aylesbury_Duck said:You're past the 30 day right to reject period, so you need to give the selling dealer a chance to repair it.1 -
I take it you have tried changing the batteries in the keycards? They say not recognised when the batteries go flat too. As it’s both, it seems unlikely, but always worth a try!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I cant as its with the garage, I would hoped they had tried it, I'd only used the car for a day, 1 keycard was ok and hadn't used the other.EssexHebridean said:I take it you have tried changing the batteries in the keycards? the car will still start if the key card batteries are flat as they are only needed for remote central locking

So you left the lights on and the battery ran flat. The keycards aren't working possibly flat batteries. You need to get all batteries charged and then take it from there.
How did the RAC manage to get in to the engine to attempt to jump start it if the car was locked?0 -
@DCFC79
i'm not mechanically minded but a quick internet search on Renault and flat battery found this thread (might be worth a read).

The keycards have an emergency key built in that works in a single concealed lock (on the passenger door side, from memory)Arunmor said:So you left the lights on and the battery ran flat.
