Keeping Track of Cards

Options
Over the last 10 years I have transferred balances from credit cards to new cards which offer decent length 0% rates.

As these cards now have a 0 balance, and I've destroyed the actual cards, I now want to make sure that I don't have any credit card accounts still 'live' that I don't use.

Is there an easy way to check what credit cards I have?

Get your credit reports from Experian, Equifax and call credit.

You can either get the statutory ones for £2 each (you might have to look a bit hard on the website as they advertise their more expensive services in the headlines).

Alternatively you can get them all for free.
Experian and Equifax do free trails (but you must remeber to cancel in time).
Call credit is free from annualcreditreport or garlik.

You don't need to pay more money to get the more expensive on-line services, legally you are entitled to a report for £2 (each).

This table has direct links to the £2 statutory reports to save you searching for them.

  • Thanks for this info.
Will the credit report tell me exactly who I still have credit cards with?
  • Yes it does.

It will also tell you which cards or loans you have closed within the last 7 years.
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
    Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
    Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)

Providing you get all 3 yes, but they probably won't all be on one report because different lenders use different credit reference agencies.

    I am pretty sure it's 6 years.
It's not blindingly obvious, but those that are closed will be marked as "settled" but they are in the same "credit account" section as open accounts so ou have to look into the detail.
