Under Sink Water Heater

I am going to fit an undersink 15l water heater. There are several on the market - they all come as is and don't suggest that they need an expansion vessel. Can anybody comment on this as the installations I have seen seem to all have expansion vessels connected. Are they necessary?

Read the installation manuals for the one(s) you are considering.
They will have specific and strict requirements on the minimum pipework lengths that must be met or a vessel fitted...
Some require a pressure relief valve is fitted (that may be supplied) and that will need venting into a drain.
