I did think you had to proactively ask or confirm that you want an increased limit - the days of them putting them on willy-nilly were long gone - due to affordability checks and treating customers fairly and all that tosh.

I have had 3 cards in the last 12 months increase limits - they were offered and were opt-out for the increase otherwise applied automatically - Tesco, Barclays and Halifax

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

In the last twelve months, HSBC offered an increase (6.5 to 7.5k) but I had to proactively accept it. Tesco Bank, without me asking, said I was likely to get an increase if I wanted, I then had to request the value I wanted in the app, which was accepted (7.5 to 8.5k).

Barclaycard offered two increases where they were applied automatically after about six weeks unless I opted out (went from 9k to 10.7k).

RBS and Santander - no changes in the limits.
