Esure claiming i'm due them money

Hi, I have a bit of a dilemma with esure where they are claiming i owe them money and so would like to know where i stand and what to do next.
I was sent a renewal email from esure on 28/9/24 wanting an extra £481.44 per year to insure my car, unhappy with this I contacted esure around the 10/10/24 asking them if they could match the price i was given on a comparison site but they refused to budge so told them i did not want to auto renew and that i would go elsewhere for car insurance after the policy ends which is today 28/10/24
Renewal email which i was not happy with renewing from esure

After the phone call i received this email on 10/10/24 showing the renewal had been cancelled.

On the 30/9/24 Esure took £89.63 from my bank as was expected. After what i assumed would be the last payment i cancelled my direct debit and on the 19/10/24 I receive this email to say i need to contact esure due to cancelling the direct debit and that on the 28/10/24 i will be due them £0.00.

Since this email i have received two texts and another email today 28/10/24 claiming i owe esure £89.63 but how can i be due them when they emailed saying that i owed them nothing by the end of the policy on 28/10/24.

The email claim's that if i do not make this payment my insurance policy will be cancelled with effect from 23:59 on 21/11/24. My policy ends today 28/10/24. Screenshot from the esure website showing this.

It takes about 7 days after the direct debit has left your account for the originator to be sure it is paid.
What you appear to have done (and nothing wrong with what you did) is cancel the direct debit relatively quickly after it left your account but before it had been confirmed paid. So, the automated system thinks the final payment was not going to arrive or was going to be bounced unpaid.
However, just check your bank statement to make sure that last payment was made. Sometimes, if you cancel the mandate on the day it is going through, the bank will return that payment.

The payment on the 30/9/24 was definitely paid as it shows as minus and being paid on my bank statement online.
I called esure today and pretty much got nowhere, whoever i spoke to could barely speak a word of english and was adamant i was due £89.63 claiming it was for october. They also argued that my policy didn't end today for a good few minutes then changed their tune when i said that they need to check my policy again.
Personally i thought insurance was always taken out a month in advance and not paid a month behind, i.e pay upfront0 -
Insurance monthly payments are 10/11 payments spread across the policy
they are not paying the month ahead or behind
it is just spreading payments to be easy for the customer0 -

Most, if not all insurance companies require some sort of upfront payment "deposit" before the policy starts, usually it's a larger amount than the remaining monthly instalment amounts. Same would apply if someone paid for the year in full they're paying it in advance of the year never after.

So been on the phone again to esure. They say because i allowed it to auto renew last year i did not pay any deposit so payed over 12 months.
The email where it say's i'm due £0.00 by 28/10/24 is apparently because the direct debit was cancelled and that is why it say's £0.00, no other reason given.
I don't understand why it wouldn't still say i was due £89.63 if this is what is owed instead of £0.00.
Regardless i will bite the bullet and just pay the remaining amount they claim i owe as i cannot be doing with the headache if i don't pay1 -

you are simply repaying the loan across the payments
a payment on 1/11/24 would not be for the next 30days, It is not a case of you paying 1 months insurance at a timeMGD256 said:So been on the phone again to esure. They say because i allowed it to auto renew last year i did not pay any deposit so payed over 12 months.

It does sound right that a renewal would have 12 payments usually there is 2 payments early but it could be possibly that its worked out different for you2
