What are people buying ahead of the budget?

Have to admit, there is a reasonable chance of that happening.Sarahspangles said:
I think they're just trying to capture early Xmas spenders in the hope we'll swig the lot and need to re-buy before XmasAlbermarle said:
Maybe a pre budget thing as Tesco and Waitrose have the same offer on at the same time.elsien said:I have actually just stocked up on wine, but it’s nothing to do with the budget and everything to do with Sainsbury’s 25% off deal. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I just read a reasonably balanced list of budget predictions in the Times.CaptainWales said:Ahead of the budget on Wednesday I wonder what items people are buying / stocking up "just in case" the budget has an effect on their cost. Fuel, alcohol and cigarettes are the obvious ones but is there anything else?
Looks like fuel and alcohol rises are unlikely......
The former because it would be too unpopular and the latter because the duty regime on alcohol was changed by Jeremy Hunt, meaning there has recently been significant rises in the price of spirits and stronger wines.0 -
Forgive me if I've missed this but why are alcohol and cigarettes obvious ones? I hadn't seen anything about increased taxes on alcohol on cigarettes and we already tax the living smithereens out of them compared to other countries.CaptainWales said:fuel, alcohol and cigarettes are the obvious ones but is there anything else?
Fuel is fair as there seems to be a lot of discussion around increasing the tax on it.
I think given how much the UK represents in global market capitalisation, even if all UK businesses became worthless overnight following the budget, most people likely wouldn't notice or at least sweat the resulting ~3.5% drop in value (assuming they are invested in relation to market cap)mark_cycling00 said:FTSE world ex-UK ETFs
