Preventing video images from playing ?

Sorry to be a pain with a probably basic problem but images tend to play on a number of web pages I visit and I understand this further reduces the speed of my ancient computor.

Is there an easy way to stop this from happening?

If it's adverts, then there are a number of ad blockers out there which eliminate the images or videos being loaded if they come from a particular advert address.#

I think it's ad blocker I use at home with firefox.

If you're using Firefox grab a copy of NoScript & Ad Block Plus as they'll stop almost anything from running, NoScript has to be "trained" to recognise the sites you want to run properly but it's a simple process & involves a couple of mouse clicks at most.
