Do the old and new look similar? Same essential style - eg close-coupled pan/cistern, basin on pedestal? If so, phew, that's costly. If different, still sounds high.
This is a what, half-day task?
It also isn't 'complex' or highly skilled, like, say, tiling or bathroom flooring or installing a shower - it's the most basic of bathroom jobs.
How many quotes have you had?

Sounds expensive to me too for fitting only.

I would get a couple of other quotes before you commit.

If it requires alterations my costs would be full day plus materials, so £540 inc vat. Possibly more if pipes need to be recessed or return visits required after decs or tiling/flooring.

Very difficult to judge without further detail. I do find cloakroom costs never go down well with customers. A full refit of a cloakroom can easily be 4/5k or more if using better end fittings. The room still has a toilet, basin, rad, window, door and 4 corners to deal with as a minimum - the meterage in the middle is the easy bit

It does very much come down to what is involved, Velvetti - are you able to tell us?

Hi All, thanks for the replies so far. Here are some more details:
    1. WC replacement is like for like. The soil pipe out of the WC takes an almost 90 degree turn to the left before exiting through the wall. Don’t know if that’s considered a non-standard/costly job.
    2. Basin is a pedestal one and I want a like for like replacement, except the tap needs changing from 2-hole to single-hole mixer tap. (Additional question: how much extra installation cost if I want a vanity unit (customer supplied) instead of a basin)

    Thanks

your question is location specific so I doubt you will get the answer you want.

as others have said, what other quotes have you had?

As already suggested - get other quotes from trusted local traders, then decide. £600 for a few hours work is not good value if it’s a straight forward job.

Is this left-turning soil pipe part of the actual cistern - is it ceramic? Or is it a plastic elbow that the toiler fits in to?
    How old is your house?
There is nothing in what you've said that's more complex than a straight replacement.
If you want a vanity unit, it'll come down to how complex a design it is - will it be wall-mounted or standing on the floor? The top will need cutting for the pipes, the basin will need sealing around its perimeter, that sort of stuff - so more complex, but again not a large job.
I guess most plumbers would charge for a day's work, even tho' it'll almost certainly take a lot less time than this.
Other things to consider - what flooring do you have? And if (when...) the pedestal and pan have a different footprint, will this require a patch or repair? If so, who'll do this?
    Anyhoo, three quotes minimum!
