Bank of Scotland motor insurance

Options

I am concerned about Bank of Scotland motor insurance – their Replacement vehicle terms states

“The Alternative Hire Vehicle provided will be a manual transmission vehicle unless your driving licence only permits you to drive an automatic transmission vehicle in which case an automatic transmission vehicle will be provided.”

I have a full licence to drive both manual and automatic cars – but have not driven a manual for over 30 years – I could not drive a manual these days !

Due to a disability – I only drive an Automatic !

Should this be necessary – do they take this into consideration ?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

    Call them and ask.
Get a note on the Insurance that you cannot drive a manual due to disability.
Mention if/when you need such a vehicle that you can't drive manuals.

Dunno if you can surrender the manual part of your Licence - Call DVLA and ask. If you can then it'll be a given you get automatics.

If you have a disability that affects your ability to drive (in any way) you must advise the DVLA. In this case they will probably simply endorse the licence with code 78 (restricted to vehicles with automatic transmission).

Bank of Scotland Car Insurance is underwritten by a panel of insurers and is arranged and administered by BISL Limited.

So may vary depending on just who the underwriter is.

All BOS is a Insurance Broker, just like all the other banks.

As mentioned by Car-54 in their post, you MUST notify the DVLA immediately of any disability that effects your ability to drive and having explained your situation, get them to apply a code 78 to your licence.

List of codes can be found here: Driving licence codes - GOV.UK

Irrespective of whether your licence is endorsed in that way, I would think it a breach of the Equality Act not to take your disability into account.

Probably. But also a breach of the insurance contract not to have told them of the disability.

Plenty of people can only drive automatics
Do they have to inform their insurance companies of the fact?
No I do not intend to inform them of this....
Because it does not affect my ability to drive the car that I am insured to drive.

Yes (they would have a code 78 on their licence)
But you are free to do as you choose!

If you re-read your own original post you say that "I could not drive a manual these days !" (which i suspect having read your later posts really means you could drive a manual but you would prefer not to!!!)
