Mis sold solar panels

I have had a phone call from a company about mis sold sola panels, they take 10%
I would like to do the claim myself but who do I complain to
I bought the solar panels about 13 years ago, the company folded after they were fitted, I didnt have finance.
so who do I complain to?

You have no one to claim against. Even if you did after 13 years of FIT payments you should have paid off your initial costs by now and still have another 12 years of index linked payments to come, so you should not have any financial losses to claim.
  • What about the warranty? or if something goes wrong the panels were guaranteed for 25 years

I see the ambulance chasing firms have a new target.

On what basis do you believe they were missold?
    (Or potentially misbought?)

What is the specific nature of your complaint, aside from that you no longer have a warranty, which you can’t actually do anything about.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

ETA a quick Google gives me the following.

What are the criteria for having a valid Solar Panel claim?

    • You purchased or paid a deposit for the solar panels using a method of finance (either a finance agreement or credit card
    • The solar panels were purchased within the last 6 years
    • You were misled about the performance of the solar panels
    • You were told the system would produce a financial benefit that is not being achieved.
    • There is a significant deficit each month between the financial benefits of the solar panels (energy bill reduction) and the finance repayments, but this was never explained to you at the point of sale.
None of which seems to apply to you.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

You would complain to the company. But as no longer trading then that is a no go.

Time that these claiming companies were fully regulated by the FCA & can not simply start these spurious claims.

There is little to go wrong with a panel. Your inverter might fail but they are relatively cheap to replace.

Warranty repairs are done by the company issuing the warranty. If that company no longer exists then the warranty is just a piece of paper with some writing on it.
  • I too have been contacted by a company they think they can get me back all of my initial  outlay  for solar pv and thermal hot water....but they want 10% of what they think they can get back up front...I'm so confused by this is there a compensation scheme ?

...with no guarantees of getting you anything back I guess!  Sounds like a scam to me.

I don't understand your worry. Presumably if your panels are working  you are getting your FITs regularly, so what is the problem? The 25 year guarantee is for the FITs, not the panels.

My system has been working trouble free for 14 years and I am well pleased, all the electricity they produce now is sheer tax free profit. I have been cold called over the years from all sorts of people offering gizmos to improve our system, but I have turned them all down because they were all scammers. If my system does go wrong, I will approach reputable electricians to get quotes to fix it.
