Clock change

Options
It’s that time where I always get confused by ending times.  I notice when checking items I listed at 7pm Sunday said they had 1 day 1 hour to go at 7pm Saturday so presumably is building in finishing at 8pm instead.  Presumably if they relist which looks likely at the moment they’ll be shifted an hour on permanently!

Until the change done by eBay this time...yes massively. We all know the business end of an Auction is the last few minutes. Previously, if you started a 7-day Auction at 7pm on a Sunday, then the clocks went back, it finished at 6pm the following week. I learnt this the hard way last year and missed out big time.

Many like myself added the extra hour on this time, only to find eBay had finally resolved the issue in the background. So auctions in this scenario ended up finishing at 8pm !

Many of us sellers schedule our auctions to end at a certain time, I wouldn’t for instance allow anything likely to appeal to the same audience as say Strictly come dancing, to end part way through the final.  Selling off similar items from a collection also gives me an indication as to which end times fetch the best prices, and it can make a difference and an hour can spoil that.

likewise when buying I often browse for auctions ending at very odd times, I’ve had some real bargains from sellers who randomnly end bundles or collections of things with poor titles that end at really odd times (and no I’m not giving accurate examples of my search habits). Earlier this year I managed to get a fairly decent collection of items that I currently sell as a business. I bought them for a song as they went almost un noticed, I actually physically out my bid in a couple of minutes towards the end when I suspect other buyers were not sitting at home on their laptop, a couple of smaller proxy bids came in but I beat them. I ended up selling all the items in that collection individually on my business account for a decent profit. Whilst the poor titles and photographs helped, I think the very strange ending time played a big factor as well.

So yes, within reason ending times to me are important.

Yes and turns out I was wrong, ending times were adjusted to be effectively the same time as set
  • I only ever list buy it now with best offer, so ending times don't really affect me. Can't remember the last time I actually listed as a bidding auction....
