Insurance question
Is this okay..
I and my daughter both have 3rd party cover to drive other cars.
Can we do the following.
Daughter bought new to her(2ndhand) car..
Due to a fault it has to go back for repair.
Due to her work she can't do it but I can.
Can I drive HEr car there? And can she drive mine at the same time?
The garage will give a loan car but as I'm picking it up I will have to drive it so...
Is it okay for a period of time to drive as she needs to get children to school.
Or do I need to add as named driver on mine?

should be OK, but you are both only covered for third party - so if you plan on doing this for while and want cover for your own car then yes, perhaps consider adding her as a named driver...

Check you can use that part of the policy to drive cars of people you live with.1

It's possible that having another person as named driver (assuming you both have NCD!) will bring the cost of the insurance down. Might not do too much this year (plus admin fee for making a change) but perhaps for next year.

Presumably you have actually checked your insurance certificates to make sure that you actually have this cover, rather than just assuming that you have it because "it comes as standard with comprehensive cover" or similar? Sorry if that sounds patronising - but you wouldn't be the first person to make that mistake.
Your certificate should say something along the lines of "the policyholder may also drive another private motor car not owned by him or leased to him under a hire purchase agreement". If it doesn't say that then you are not insured to drive other cars. If it does then you are fine to do what you describe - just as above remember that it will be third party cover only so any damage to the car you are driving is your problem, not your insurer's.2 -
From a minimum cover point of view you will likely be covered. Can you either afford to have your cars written off and receive no money back? That is the risk you are taking.
Will you be covered to drive the loan car though as you are not a party to any contracts?1 -
Thanks for comments.
To be safe have done as additional/ named driver with no cost but £25 ammendment fee.
As has been mentioned £25 to be covered fully is worth it.2
