Barclaycard application is the worst thing in this country

I tried 3 years ago, just to be rejected 3 times when trying to submit documents to prove my income and get a decent credit limit. I ended up leaving them to close it as it was futile, whether online or going to a branch.

Well, I was looking for a credit card now and applied again (I somehow forgot about that nightmare). Lo and behold. I'm on my 3rd document application.

I've provided EXACTLY the documents they request twice. I'm self-employed so, my latest SA302, and since I pay myself monthly, 2 consecutive monthly bank statements showing the income paid. I even provided 3 last months, just to ensure there was 2 complete months.

Rejected. Again. I'm so fed up with these useless company I don't know what to do anymore. Considering going to a branch but I know I'll find a useless person who'll just play by the book, just to be rejected again.

Just a rant. If anyone has any tip that helps on their nightmare of process, it'll be appreciated.

They just don't want you as a customer, for whatever reason. Take your business elsewhere.

What cards are available to you if you use an eligibility checker? I'd go to one of those companies - but if you use one of the price comparison sites checkers, I'd rerun the eligibility check on the providers own site, before applying.

This country cannot be too bad then. Are all the banks refusing you?  Have you checked the records held by the credit reference agencies?

That'd be weird, as I got a 90% success on the test with them, and the credit card was accepted on the application. I already got it with the PIN. It's just the document review process/instructions that's utter crap.

No, it's the only one I tried as it was a decent card.

I'm looking for a card with 0% exchange rate fees and no monthly fees either. I don't use credit cards at all except for car rental deposits abroad. If it has some cashback, it's a bonus. Will def move on and look at other options.

There is obviously something about the way you declare your employment/income that Barclaycard do not like, accept that and move on.
  • I’m having the same issue. I’ve uploaded two wage slips and now have submitted 3 wage slips and 3 months bank statements.

I’ve also been to branch with my slips so just waiting for an update.

I'm not sure why they are rejecting it as it meet’s their requirements that they are asking for

it keeps saying it can’t see my name/address and income although it is very clear on the document.

If it is a decent card, they are likely to be more picky. You may have more luck with a less decent card. Some of the banks do not charge exchange rate fees on debit card payments. You are likely to have more luck with those, because you would not be asking them to lend you money.

I want it to be credit. It's mainly for rental deposits abroad. I already have debit ones without fees.

Anyway, I just applied to Virgin Money travel credit card. Instant approval, £4200 credit limit from start. No nonsense. Barclays sucks and they won't see me again.
  • Interesting. I have had the opposite with Barclaycard, instant approval, good limit and the card I wanted (Avios Premium Plus). I've actually been with Barclaycard for well over 15 years but lets just say I had a break from them for 4 years. Their customer service has been OK and i've found they've been the most accommodating with all transactions made out of all of my credit cards.

Nonetheless you've now got sorted with Clydesdale Bank.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
