Landlord Building insurance

Hello
i own a flat in a tenement building. I have been with the same insurer for 3 years and when I renewed in March I informed them of investigation works taking place in the main stair and all flats due to a crack in main pipe. My insurers took a note and said to call to make a claim when needed.
in Oct following updated investigations the council advised all owners to contact insurer to understand their position on structural subsidence claims. Following the information I provided my insurance company called to say they would cancel my policy due to the condition of the building two weeks from the date of the call and advised me to cancel so it wouldn’t show up for future insurance that I had had a policy cancelled.

I have submitted a claim and complained to financial ombudsman. I am meeting the loss adjusters at my property on Wed for them to look at the building based on information sent to insurers.
My question is can my insurers still cancel policy whilst there is a live claim?
Any recommendations for a good insurance broker to help find a new landlord building insurer who will insure a non standard policy.

So what is the current assessment by the council?
Did "the pipe crack" because of subsidence and therefore the subsidence happened before this policy year commenced or did the pipe crack for some other reason and its eroded the ground since you renewed and this has now caused the subsidence to happen?
You cannot complain to the FOS until after you've complained to the insurer and received their final response (or 8 weeks have passed, whichever is sooner).
An insurer can cancel or void a policy with a live claim certainly, a significant proportion of insurer cancellations/voids are because checks during a live claim identifies false declarations when the policy was taken out.
Depending on the answers to the above it sounds like the claim should be against the prior year policy and so what happens to this years policy is broadly irrelevant. You will significantly struggle to get insurance whilst there is a live subsidence event ongoing, even if you were comfortable to buy insurance without subsidence cover.0 -
the current assessment is now structural subsidence which is the outcome from investigations which were concluded this year. When I renewed this year in March there was no mention of structural subsidence from the council initial it was to investigate a crack in the main pipe.0
