Did people generally use their own energy supplier to install solar panels? Or a local company?
Thinking about getting some for my house but I don't know where to start.

A friend recommended a company he had had dealings with so knew the owner, I bought from them…they went bust a week after installation!
With hindsight, get at least 3 quotes from local & national, talk to any neighbours with solar - word of mouth is best imho.
Rule of thumb, maximise the number of panels, get a suitable inverter, consider batteries for time of use shifting if you want cheapest electric. Buy quality long term guaranteed kit.0 -
One of my neighbours had a local company do his installation and then they went bust so he can't get anything fixed. Despite the higher prices, I recommend you use a well known and long term company
I had mine from Project Solar, they get a lot of bad press on here but they were totally helpful to me and have done an excellent job and after-sales service was great0 -
I used a local solar together scheme and although the original fitters went bust I continue to get support and warranty cover through the scheme using another company.16 Panel (250W JASolar) 4kWp, facing 170 degrees, 40 degree slope, Solis Inverter. I bought mine 14 years ago from a local company which has since gone out of business.
No issues.0 -
I used a company called Empower Energy over 12 years ago and I'm pleased to say that they are stil in business. I recently recommended them to someone in our village and they are very please with their installation.
My installation has performed fautlessly over the past 12 years.
Certainly shop around and get at least 3 quotes.0 -

Local independent company, recommended by my reliable electrician. Owner is now retiring and the company has been bought out by the same reputable local firm of electricians which he used for installations. New owners will assume responsibility for warranty and maintainance/cleaning contracts.
