Renegotiating Sky TV + Broadband

I'm currently paying a whopping £80 per month for Sky TV (HD+Netflix) and broadband (Ultrafast 1) and am out of contract on both. I set up a new package as if I was a new customer which came to £45/mth which is definitely in the ballpark of where I want to be.

As I've done before, I've called them a couple of times but each time after they've gone away to talk with their "back office" they say the best they can do is £80/mth. I'm wondering if they're clamping down on hagglers now, as they seem particularly stubborn and inflexible. Especially as I've been with them for 23 years!

I might just pull the plug, but wondering if anyone else is still haggling successfully?

Pull the plug… then you’ll find out what their best offer is.  (Be armed with the cost of suitable alternatives to help you)
  • I pulled the plug and in fact today is the first day without them.  I have just had an email asking me to call them so I can get up and running again which I have no intention of doing.  I did have signature + Netflix + Multi room for £59.50.  The best they would offer was £42 even though I could get the same as a new customer for £33 which they wouldn't match.  I have a friends freesat recorder and I'm going to see how it is without them.  So far so good.

I've resubscribed to Netflix for £4.99 and Now TV to get back the sky channels I did have for £6.99.  I swapped from Sky Broadband earlier in the year from FTTC to FTTP.  So I have all my TV services for £11.98 saving £47.52 a month  and with smart TVs I don't need multi room anyway.  I can't see me going back any time soon.
