How to arrange parcel pickup from someone else's address?

Just won an ebay item and it is collect in person or arrange pickup only, the guy will not post.
So how does it work? i have been on royal mail website and they ask for item id or tracking number which i don't have.
Also it seems to assume the pick up is from my own home not someone elses, what am i doing wrong.

  • You need to buy postage from their address to yours, then you'll have the parcel number to be able to book a collection.  You then have the option of sending the label to the seller (e-mailing the PDF or posting a printed version), or choosing the option for the postie to bring the label.

The important bit here is the will not post

Obviously you need to collect from his address or RM does

Has seller agreed that you can send a label and he’ll sort out packing and wait in for the collection?  Usually when someone doesn’t want to post it’s because they don’t want the hassle of packing everything safely, so it seems odd that they would be prpeared to go to all the effort of packing and sending item for you, but not offer that generally and potentially have got more interest in the item.

if seller has agreed, make sure they package it carefully and confirm the weight and size of the parcel so you buy the correct label. You will also need to make sure they have agreed to be in for a collection.

On the RM site you can arrange collection from another address just by completing the ‘collection from’ details.

Do check though that seller  is happy to post like this, as collection usually means you collect personally or arrange a friend or a man with a van to collect the item unpackaged so selelr doesn’t have to worry about items getting damaged.

i'd agree. unless confirmed by seller to me "collect in person or arrange pickup only" means you collect or whoever picksup has the job of packaging as required.
  • While I agree - generally sellers like this don't want the hassle of packaging - it could also be a case of the seller not wanting anything to do with any post related issues - losses or compensation claims for damages etc. This way, the seller will pack (hopefully doit well!) and the buyer assumes all responsibility for the delivery........

Isn’t there an eBay barcode/QR code that needs scanning when collecting an item?  This won’t happen if Royal Mail collect so the seller will be open to an item not received claim.

I managed to sort it out, i was trying to book a collection when i needed to send it but from somewhere else.
The guy lives in Snowdonia on a farm probably miles away from a post office so collection is the best option for him.
