Renewing IP Address problem on laptop

Hi
Anyone help me with this problem, please? Bear with me on the 'story'.

I have Brighthouse Broadband in our holiday home with a Linksys wi-fi router. It works OK. When last there I thought it was taking a time to 'open', but my laptop - (IBM Think pad T22)its old (run by steam I think!) and does so in UK.
Not wanting to muck about with it when there I waited until I got home to UK.
Used it a few times first (the laptop has a card for the wireless - I told you it was old.) - and although its set to the Brighthouse broadband as a default, I prefer to keep it that way and 'sign on' to Sky each time I use it at home with no problem.

BTW its a Net-gear router in UK with my desktop which I use mainly when UK, but as I say it has not been a problem before)
The laptop works - connects to the Internet when cabled to the desktop.
The problem only seems to be when I try to connect to the Internet by wi-fi via the adapter.

I was originally on freeserve/wanadoo/orange (now on sky.com) and thinking that it was that which may have been slowing down the 'opening up', I removed the Wandoo/Orange programmes.

Duly signed into Sky OK and it says I am connected to the Internet, but
I cannot get any web pages and it continually says 'Acquiring network address.' It has 'excellent' Strength. Status also says Windows has no problem with this connection. Clicking on Repair it says, eventually
'Renewing your IP address. '

I am reluctant to remove the Lynksys programme and start again as I don't want problems when we go back to the holiday home

It all stems from the removal of the Wanadoo program. I have tried a System Restore but no luck.
I also tried to re-install the Wandadoo via Add/Remove programmes I don't have the disks any more
Any clues?

I'm somewhat confused by your description... you say initially that you sign-on to Sky at home with no problem, but then it becomes clear that you do have a problem connecting to the Internet with Sky. Maybe you can explain?? It sounds like the problem resides with your wifi router(s) rather than your broadband provider.

Anyway, as you say there are problems connecting your WiFi, I wonder if you need to configure the security settings(WEP? WPA?) either on the router, or your laptop's wifi client. Maybe you need to change the security password phrase? It's likely you use either a different security type, or a different password at home. I know your laptop can probably store multiple wifi network settings, but maybe you've changed one of them?
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

its not difficult to remove all the unwanted networks and just leave the default network required.
its then easy enough to add any other network when required.
also try my MS XP WZC repair as described in a recent wireless problem thread.
    Get some gorm.
