UC - Transitional Protection

just wanted to check with you u guys if transferring from tax credits to universal credit under managed migration and having another property not currently lived in then does transitional protection apply?
as I’ve just spoke to someone on the managed migration line and he told me NO is doesn’t.

Not sure why you received the answer you did from the helpline.  Have heard of people with over a million in second property assets migrating from TC to UC and receiving transitional protection for 12 months.

Transitional protection helps with your move to Universal Credit.

If eligible, this protection means you can:

• get a transitional protection payment added to your Universal Credit entitlement if you receive more from your previous tax credits or benefits
• claim Universal Credit and have money, savings and investments over £16,000 for 12 assessment periods, if you receive tax credits
• claim Universal Credit if you’re a full-time student in higher education until you or your partner finish the course

Yes but I now just double checked with the managed migration helpline and the guy has told me that if u have another property not currently lived in then u are not entitled to the transitional protection.
So is this guy wrong or the information given on here?

The person on the phone is wrong.  The purpose of transitional protection - disregarding capital above £16,000 - is for exactly this kind of scenario.

It's really quite scary to think how many people could be put off from claiming what they're entitled to due to wrong advice from people on the helpline.

The helpline are not benefits advisors and you really shouldn't be ringing them to ask for such advice.
