Hi.
Although we haven't got a date for moving what needs to be done to keep our landline number.
This is the first time in our lives we are moving home. were both just retired and never done this before. What do I need to do to take our own landline number along with current broadband with us to new house. The new house is served by Virgin.
We are currently with Vodafone but only use our landline for incoming calls. We are moving further down the Street which has virtually the same post code and area code.
Will it be BT I contact to take our number with us or will it be Vodafone. Openreach only recently installed the new fibre and we know it is in the new house.

Who will you take service from in the new property? You mention that it currently has Virgin, and then that Openreach have installed fibre0

Broadband isn't like electricity & gas utilities where you take over the incumbent supplier.
Typically people take their ISP with them as they will be in a contract. Sometimes that can't happen if the ISP does not provide services in the new area.
Are you still in contract with Vodafone and how long will be left when you move?1 -
As your contract is with Vodafone, you would need to speak to them.Life in the slow lane0

The two year contract has a few months yet to run. Although they are the broadband provider, does our landline number also come under Vodafone.0

Vodafone use both Openreach and City Fibre networks, assuming you are on Openreach , if the new address is served out of the same exchange as your current address , most Openreach providers could arrange service to the new address ( that would need checking having similar postcodes is no guarantee but if it’s a short distance it may well be the same exchange area )
As stated , the fact that the new address has Virgin is irrelevant, VF are not available on Virgin , in fact only Virgin are available on Virgin , but most addresses can get Openreach , so even if the Openreach ‘connection’ into that address was last used years ago , and it needs to be to be re-provided , that can be arranged by Vodafone ( should you want to stay with them due to contractual obligations ) or any other Openreach based provider ……however it also needs to be mentioned that some providers chose to do the absolute minimum ( and in my opinion VF are one ) so even if it’s possible to do what you want , take the phone number with you to the new address , they will ( because it’s easier for them ) state that you need a new phone number .1 -
OP, when we moved house, we were on Virgin Cable and the new house had a BT copper line and Sky TV through dish. We just went through the Virgin Media moving home protocol and they sorted it out within a few days of us moving, including moving our landline number which the OH insists we keep. Speak to your existing provider and they should sort everything out.1
