Family Summer Holiday ideas for France

We are a family of four (2 young children) looking to spend 2 weeks in France next summer holiday (2008).

We are arriving in Calais via ferry and will be driving. We are also happy to split the journey up with an overnight stop if necessary.

We would like to go self catering, and would be happy with a gite, small villa or mobile home / cabin.

Any recommendations of holiday villages, sites, recommended private rentals or even towns / villages to search for accomodation in, would be of great help.
