Ebay help please

OH won an item today, item ended at 6.07 this morning. Auction states "dear buyers please pay by postal orders not crossed or cash.I will not accept cheques .AND I DO NOT HAVE PAYPAL"

Now just got an email from seller

"you should not bid on my item when you dont intend to buy it i have to now relist it and pay more fees to ebay"

Even if we had posted PO or cash today s/he wouldn't have got it til Tuesday so they is no way possible for us to have paid this seller already.

What should we do now?

Feedback is 259, with 98.9% positive (3 negatives in total, 1 within the last month)

Neither us or the seller had any communication before this email.

Thanks

Firstly it does not sound like this seller has English as their first language so there may have been a simple mix up.

I would suggest in the first instance that you send them an email saying you were surprised to receive their mail and questioning whether they hav ein fact sent it to the wrong person.

Then just say that you were intending to send a postal order tomorrow, the first time at which you are able to buy one and ask them to confirm that this is in order.

I wouldn't actually send the PO though until you have some clarification from this seller as you have no comeback if it gets lost in the post or the seller claims non delivery. An uncrossed PO is just like snding cash through the post, with all the inherent risks.

  • I was going to post it on Tuesday as I will be rushing round all day tomorrow anyway. Auction also states "Please send payment within 7 days" so I didn't think this would be a problem. It wasn't til after auction ended we noticed they don't accept cheques or Paypal, our own fault for not reading properly but was still going to send payment the way they requested it.

I have emailed seller asking if they had made a mistake as item was only won this morning so awaiting the reply now.

Sounds like he sent email to wrong person. Hope he replies to confirm that. I wouldn't send PO until matter is cleared up.

  • He replied back saying he'd made a mistake so I posted the PO yesterday. Today got this email from him:-

HI PLEASE DON,T SEND ANY PAYMENT FOR THE ITEM
YOU WON ON MY EBAY . I CAN NOT FIND IT ,I AM
HAVING MY HOME PAINTED AND HAVE MISLAYED IT. WHEN I FIND IT I WILL EMAIL YOU SORRY ABOUT THIS

What should I do now? I have emailed back saying I have already sent payment (£5.03)

I'm not sure whether you can stop an uncrossed postal order even if you do have the receipt. I would suggest that you phone the Post office straight away and ask them what to do.

If the postal order can't be stopped you need to get back in touch with the seller and tell him that you will send a Stamped addressed envelope for the safe return of your postal order, and hope he complies.

I would normally worry about sellers losing things and not returning the payment, but from the emails you have received this seller does not seem to be very organised.
