Govt Child Trust Fund

I had one child given 2 amounts and the others only received the one payout due to date of birth. I invested all in same places and took guidance from MSE, moving them around about 5 times. One ended up under £700 and the other 2 around half this. I am a bit bemused by hearing that some ‘children’s’ are worth nearly £2k. I know there are some canny investors out there but it does feel like I may as well have just left it alone, or are these estimates inflated?

It all comes down to exactly how (or indeed if) they were invested, so generalised figures aren't particularly helpful.

The £2000 ish quoted is the avenge value of CTF’s including ADDITIONAL monies added by others not just the £250 or £500 given by the government. My boy has about £3.5k in his I think we put in at £2.5 14 years ago.

If it was just the government funding that was invested then the average result was nowhere near £2k and is a bit of irresponsible reporting to be honest.

You would likely be looking at a doubling of the government contribution being more realistic.

Also bear in mind some children received £1000 (2x£500) so naturally they would be more likely to have a higher value now.
