Road tax refund
Hi, I recently changed my car, and had 5 months remaining on the old cars road tax, which cost £590 to renew, last March. the refund I’ve received for the remaining 5 months is £75.
I expected a refund of around £245,(£50 per month) can anyone explain why the refund does not cover the full cost of the remaining 5 months, or hopefully advise how I can raise this as a complaint to vehicle licensing agency.
I can’t find any info on how to raise such a complaint on their website,

If the vehicle was over the £40,000 limit and subject to the extra (£400/410) premium for 5 years it could be that is not refunded when the tax is cancelled.
You will get the refund based on the usual £180/190 depending on when it was taxed.1 -

What happens after you’ve told DVLA
Your vehicle tax will be cancelled by DVLA. If you pay by Direct Debit, the Direct Debit will be cancelled automatically.
You’ll automatically get a refund cheque for any full months left on your vehicle tax. The refund is calculated from the date DVLA gets your information. The cheque is sent to the name and address on the vehicle log book.
You will not get a refund for:
- any credit card fees
- the 5% surcharge on some direct debit payments
- the 10% surcharge on a single 6 month payment
Can't see any reference to exclude luxury car tax.0
