UC claim over 5 years old, now asking for photo id and bank statements, panicking

Options
I am close to the savings threshold as been trying to save for a rainy day and hopefully move out of my flat to a better place.

They are asking for 4 months bank statement, photo id and a photo of me holding the photo id, and yes it's legit as logged into my UC account.

Is this a sign they are suspicious of me? I have nothing to hide just worried they think there is as I have neighbours I don't get on with who like to report me to my landlord and I am paranoid they have lied to the DWP, I don't own a car, take holidays, drink alcohol, put heating on hence why I have savings just panicking as I am autistic I have already thrown up due to the stress.

    No. It just normal checking.
Surprised you have not had one before, as they can be annually.

It's normal, I'm in the middle of same. They're catching up on a backlog of routine reviews
  • Thanks, was panicking.

Claim was meant to be reassessed January this year and never heard back so just assuming this is them doing it now.

It is stressful by it's nature but try not to worry, they basically ask to see all of your bank statements for past 4 months, and your ID and then there's a phone interview. Make sure that you provide everything they ask for when they ask for it and just be honest. It's just one of things that has to happen now and then

This is a routine compliance check, nothing to worry about they are looking at lots of claims.
I went through one last year myself.

Yes routine check, but please be aware that if you don't provide the information this could lead to your claim being suspended.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Be ready for stupid questions.   My son submitted his earlier this year and they questioned a payment to him, from his sister.  He was advised the call would be potentially an hour, took longer to clear security than it did to ask/answer the question…

Yes, but he has no direct debts, payments etc.  So his statements was cash in (UC) and transactions out to shops etc.  They actually asked who is Miss X Surname who paid you £50?

Ps they have the same surname so I’m not sure what leap of judgement they made…

The OP refers to being close to the savings limit.  If they mean the upper limit of £16k they have hopefully been keeping UC informed as their savings have increased beyond £6k
