Escaping EDF

We wanted to move house a few years ago, and got no offers to buy. We did get an offer to rent, from a care home, and we were able to move house. They left the tenancy in July this year and we've put the house on the market, it's been empty for 3 months now.
The care home had a business gas and electric contract with EDF.
We're with Octopus. I tried to do an online switch to take over the bills, and Octopus said because it's a business account the tenant has to end the contract with EDF. The tenant tried, and forwarded me a message from EDF asking me for a solicitors letter on headed paper, saying the tenancy had ended. Subsequent emails to EDF have resulted in them asking me for different paperwork every time. I've been asked for my passport, my mortgage details, a VAT declaration (I'm not VAT registered), the deeds to the property, the tenancy agreement, all kinds. Every email was from a different person at EDF. Finally I asked them to escalate this to someone more senior. I received an email saying my former tenant had to fill out a form (with a link to it) to end their contract with EDF early, then I would be able to switch it back to a residential account and take over.
That was a few weeks ago, and I assumed the tenant was dealing with it. They've just sent me an email saying I have to close the account with EDF down. I've asked them to forward me the emails they've had from EDF so I can see what the problem is now.
It's just a house, sat amongst a few other houses. The tenant opened a business contract, I don't see why EDF are finding it so difficult to close the business contract and let me take over with Octopus on a residential account. It was a residential account on Octopus before the tenants moved in.
Does anyone know how to escape from EDF? Sorry this was so long! Thank you!

I don't know but I wish you luck. I had endless problems with EDF just trying to change a domestic contract from them to Octopus. The problem is that every person you interact with at EDF doesn't have the past conversations available and you have to go through the whole scenario over and over again0
