About 3 months, when the majority of cars were RWD. Thought I was Ari Vatanen in a mk1 2 litre Cavalier, booted it on a bend to get the back end out and went backwards through a hedge.0

I can't find it on t'interweb, but didn't Clarkson tell the story of passing his test, jumping in his mother's car and ending up in a field upside down?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

OP give us some context - why are you asking0

LightFlare said:OP give us some context - why are you askingI honestly don't think there is a specific reason. If you look at their posting history, all they ever do is ask random questions.I can't for the life of me fathom what the reasoning behind it is, though !

This is a really clever way of working out peoples' ages. As was the "I remember when petrol was £1 a litre".
Look at the OP's threads. They ask specific questions and do not return to them.
Is it just me or are they looking for sensitive details that could be passwords?0 -
I remember when it was a pound a gallon, though I wasn't old enough to drive back then I was still buying 50p at a time to run an old bike around the fields,
This thread has reminded me of a close relative (my poor brother).
Passed his test and went out to buy his first car a day or so later.
A nice little ex demonstrator 1992 Nova 1.2i in Champagne.
It took the dealer a couple of days to remove the demo stickers on the doors and when they went to pick it up it was nice and shiny, parked outside the showroom window, nose on.
Trouble was, reverse on these Nova was selected by lifting a ring up under the knob and no one mentioned it to the new owner.
Thinking the car was in reverse (the R on the knob was next to 1st) and being rather nervous, he applied plenty of rpm, much more than was strictly needed and lifted the clutch rather too abruptly.
He went straight through a massive plate glass window and into two brand new cars parked up in the showroom.
I'm not proud of this and it's still a bone of contention in the family but I'd actually went with him to drop him off at the dealers and I was waiting in my car as it happened.
My fight or flight kicked in and I'm ashamed to say, I shot off as fast as I could.
I did eventually return to survey the carnage and boy was there lots of it!
The staff at the dealers were actually very good about it after the initial shock of it all and made a bit of a fuss over him as he was in a right state after the accident and his brother had just done a road runner act.
Apart from a short test drive (which he never tried reverse) he lasted around 25 seconds behind the wheel of his own car before totalling it and another two, brand new cars that were actually inside a building.
He did eventually go back and buy another one and they actually did him a good deal.
This time they insisted on delivering it to him and I can't blame them.
