Hi
After talking to octopus solar and doing the remote survey I have been offered the following system.
5 x 440 watt  JA Solar panels
5 x Enphase Microinverter
Bird mesh
All free of charge.

I need to have a survey done to confirm everything is ok and I can go ahead.

The original plan was to include a 5kw Enphase battery but from the photos I submitted they don't think they can fit it on my rear outside wall.
But if they surveyor says one will fit they will add it back onto the order.
I was surprised the battery had to go outside.

Does this system sound OK even without the battery?

Thanks

  • Are you really getting solar panels free from Octopus, I can’t see that being advertised anywhere!

Ask if you can pay to have some extra panels. Get as many as will fit.

I haven't heard about Octopus offering free panels.. what are the details of the deal? Do the own it for 10 years?
5x440W = 2.2kW at peak quite low - so again not really sure how this would benefit them? If they got 10kW from you at the peak time 16-19 then I would understand.

How did you find out about it?

Batteries don't need to be outside, in fact mine doesn't look weatherproof TBH.
Where are these FREE panels being advertised and how do you qualify? It's nit a very high output system and probably will only fill your potential battery in summer - that's assuming you aren't required to supply the grid as part of the deal

There is more detail about the scheme in this thread I think:

I received a email from Octopus
You may be eligible for free, fully subsidised solar panels! ☀️

Would you like solar panels fully funded through our Warm Home Discount

    So obviously I applied.

The offer is through Octopus warm home discount.
I will fully own the panels and I would receive any money if I sell any kwh back to the grid.
I received a email about the scheme and had to apply.

The Octopus solar advisor told me the battery has to be outside, but I thought it strange having it outside.
I can use all the solar generated if I can

I absolutely would not be having batteries anywhere but outside if it was me so stick with their assertion that they need to be outside.

So you agree that the best place is outside for the battery.
I was just thinking about the cold getting to the battery.
