    I've met several people renting very happily from the Anchor Housing association - it seems very secure.  Is there anywhere near to your children?

                    I would suggest not buying an over 60s type flat/apartment - they are difficult to sell. Renting one would be fine, but a lot of stories of people not getting anywhere near their value when it comes to selling.

                    I would second this - don't even consider buying one of these

                    they are nigh on impossible to sell and you have to pay extortion that fees monthly even though the flat is empty

                    I think maybe some fine tuning to this.

                    Absolutely do not buy a new over 60's retirement flat/apartment. Not only are they difficult to sell later, but there are horror stories of having to drop the price by large amounts to even get any interest.
                    There can be a case for buying one a few years old, as you should get a bargain.
                    However as pointed out, you need to read all the terms and conditions carefully, especially around charges.

                    Also, your daughter would be giving up her FTB status for a home she wouldn't live in..... big sacrifice
