Can I ask how long roughly it took you to get a referral and /or diagnosis.  I know it varies according to postcode but a rough idea would help enormously.   We are at the very beginning of the process.

As your son is a child I wouldn't expect you to receive any reduction in your council tax, even if he's awarded DLA because he's still a child.

For child tax credits if awarded DLA then yes it will be from the start of the DLA award.

    hi
it took 2 and half years it was a long progress , very annoying and had to wait months between each appointment, my son had his appointment dec 2023 and then waited to  September 2024 last month to get his next appointment .   started the progress year 7 and he in year 10 now . also got to go through the progress with my other child but he is a lot younger but im dreading it.

@poppy12345 just so I am clear in my mind - CTC is ending and so no new claims can be made (is this correct) also you can only claim CTC if claiming WTC (again please correct me if wrong)

Will the DLA award be back dated to the point of first claiming (like PIP) equally for the OP - are you expecting this to be back dated to the start of your long journey in diagnosis?

Average time waiting in my area for assessment is 4 years.

Of course no new claims for Tax credits are possible. The OP said can you apply for "extra" tax credits so I inferred they were already claiming Tax Credits. I don't believe everyone has yet migrated to UC.

No, DLA won't be awarded from the start of their long journey. It's awarded from the date they rang to start the claim.
