UC deals with whole months only. You are either entitled to UC for the whole month, or not at all.If you are single, claiming UC and reach SP age, your UC claim will close in the assessment period after you reach SP age. For example, if you turn 66 and reach SP age on the 10th, you will be entitled to UC through until the end of the AP on the 8th of the following month. However, and here is the important bit, any State Pension that you are entitled to will be deducted pound for pound, so unless your normal UC entitlement is larger than your SP entitlement, your UC payment will be reduced or nilled by your SP entitlement (you don't get both!)If it is a joint couple claim, the UC claim would stay open until both members of the couple have reached SP age, with an SP entitlement being deducted from the UC.Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter0

Thank you - another conundrum what happens to the contribution based ESA that UC deduct from overall UC claim? It is very confusing especially as I lose the allowance for child that UC gives me but pension does not - working out we will be nearly £300 worse off a month. Does not help that newspapers say all pensioners are greedy - not all are.0

@kaMelo no I have not - I have small private pension that is approx £300 month and that cancels the pension credit by a few pounds as far as I can make out - UC and contribution ESA is more than SP and comes with additional passporting entitlements that we will no longer get. Bit of a struggle coming (and maybe it is taxed) but such is life.0

Your circumstances increase your pension credit level. Claiming PIP and having responsibility for a child increases it to around £375 per week, if I remember correctly this is more than your pensions,, both state and private, will pay you meaning you qualify for pension credit.

@kaMelo - thank you for your kindness in taking the time and effort to help me - it is appreciated. I have also found out that with pension credit my child can also have free school meals which will be helpful as transition will be next year. Hoping the budget will not change this but will wait and see.1
