Hello - want to plug phone into my router using a usb c to ethernet adapter and ethernet cable. When I do this the lights go on on the adapter. The phone registers than something is connected when I scroll down - says phone is charging other device with usb tap for more options. When it goes to usb settings all the other options are greyed out. When I go to connections then more connections the option for ethernet is greyed out. Do I need to download a driver for this? - I did see a download for usb on the US Samsung support page. Is it safe/allowed to download drivers from the US site? - am not in the US. Have tried customer services to no avail. Have seen someone with the same model of phone use a similar adapter to connect phone to router on Youtube. Any suggestions much appreciated. The phone is Samsung Galaxy A15 5G Model SM-A155F/DSN. Used a OTG adapter and same cable with an older Motorola phone which worked fine. Have tried Samsung customer service but they don't know?

What are you trying to do/achieve by doing this?1

Hi Emmia - I don't like using wifi. A cable connection is a better connection and feels safer when using phone to video chat on whatsapp. Want to connect to internet to do whatsapp and googleplay updates and keep mobile data use to minimum. Thanks for your speedy reply.

What's your concern over using WiFi?
You can set your network up to be secure which would make updating your phone much easier than needing to plug in an ethernet cable.2 -
have you made sure Wi-Fi and mobile data are off
also some routers do not support ethernet tethering have you made sure yours does
do not download any drivers from random sites you don't need them2 -
Also if you are worried about the security of WiFi, you can get a VPN for not very much a month. Have a look at NordVPN and SurfShark. If you look on youtube, a lot of channels are sponsored by both of these and offer very good discounts

Just bought the same phone. A Great budget device!WiFi set up on your own router with appropriate security setting is as secure as you will need ( you are not selling secrets or on the black web are you?) - though intuitively you may think cable connection is 'better' ( it can be more reliable and faster if Wifi has poor signal strength but hardly more secure when Wifi connection is encrypted)Just avoid connecting to unknown wifi if you are asked when you switch on Wifi.As mentioned above updates (you have to have them!) etc can use a lot of data and may then cost you on mobile packages unless you have reasonable data allowance (that does not need to be very large lots of basic packages will give you 5GB per month). A big benefit of wifi is that you can set your phone to use wifi when you use your phone when it would otherwise use mobile. That can have data allowance, improved signal clarity (in poor mobile areas) and more.2

Thanks to all above for your comments. I have subsequently purchased another adaptor which works -, its USB3 but says backwards compatible on the box. Bit of shame that the more expensive Belkin adaptor didn't work as it also has a charging cable socket as well as the USB one. Thanks again for all your help!
